The Herne Farm Pre-School is now closed

It is with great regret the Herne Farm Pre-School closed at the end of the summer term 2019, and will not reopen in September.

At an Extraordinary General Meeting attended by families of current children, and after considering the financial outlook and current liabilities, a vote was taken, and it was regretfully, but overwhelmingly, in favour of closing the Pre-School and starting the process to dissolve the charity trust.

The decision was not at all easy or taken lightly by the families in attendance; despite great efforts to market and fundraise for our fantastic Pre-School, the unfortunate situation is that we just do not have enough families on the roll to continue the Pre-School through the next school year. Faced with significant forecast losses in the autumn term, we have explored all available alternatives to keep the Pre-School viable.

As a committee and as parents, we would like to extend our thanks to the staff for all their hard work in caring for our children and for making the Pre-School the fantastic place that we have all come to love. The kind comments of support for the staff on the Pre-School’s Facebook page reflect just what a wonderful environment they created for our children, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. We are also very sorry for those children who were due to return or start in September and hope that they are able to find an alternative setting.

Please do contact us on if you have any questions, or need any help finding another setting for your child.

Finally, thank you to everyone in the community that has supported the Pre-School over the years, from past staff and committee members, to local businesses and charities, the Herne Farm Leisure Centre and of course to the parents that supported the Pre-School over its 40-year history.
